LPLewis PartnersCPA Professional Corporation

Small business accountant in Ottawa

Most Ottawa business owners don't need more accounting. They need to stop wondering whether it's being handled.

Lewis Partners works with incorporated owner-managed businesses across Ottawa and the rest of Ontario — trades, professional services, retail, restaurants, and the holding companies that sit behind them. Most of our clients work with us entirely remotely. You deal with a CPA directly, not a different junior every year, and you know the fee before the work starts.

What we handle

  • Bookkeeping — monthly or quarterly in QuickBooks Online, reconciled and closed, so your numbers mean something during the year.
  • Year-end and T2 — compilation financial statements and your corporate return, filed on time.
  • HST — registration, quarterly or annual returns, and sorting out filings that have drifted.
  • Payroll — regular runs, source deductions, T4s and ROEs, plus WSIB and EHT.
  • Personal tax — T1s for you and your family, planned alongside the corporation rather than separately.
  • Advisory — salary versus dividends, whether to incorporate, buying equipment or a vehicle, and planning before year-end instead of after.

Built for Ontario rules

Working with an Ottawa firm means we are in the same rules you are. HST at 13%. WSIB coverage and the quarterly premium calculation. Ontario EHT once payroll passes the exemption. The T2 is due six months after your year-end, but if you are a CCPC claiming the small business deduction, the balance is payable three months after — which catches owners out more than any other deadline.

How it starts

  1. A short call. Twenty minutes to understand the business, what is in place now, and what is not working.
  2. A written proposal. Scope and a fixed annual fee, usually billed monthly. No hourly surprises.
  3. Onboarding. We get access to your books, deal with CRA authorization, and find out what the previous accountant left behind.
  4. The first close. You get statements you can actually read, and a conversation about what they mean.

What it costs

Fees depend on the size of the business, how clean the books are, and how much work there is through the year. After a short call we send a written proposal with a fixed annual fee, usually billed monthly, so you know the cost before anything starts. No hourly billing and no surprise invoices.

Common questions

Can you take over mid-year?

Yes. Most new clients arrive partway through a year. We pick up from where the books stand and fix what needs fixing.

Do we have to meet in person?

No. Most clients work with us entirely remotely. Our office is at 489-1505 Laperriere Avenue in Ottawa if you would rather sit down, by appointment.

What if my bookkeeping is behind?

Common and fixable. We will tell you what catching up involves and what it costs before starting.

Do you work with sole proprietors?

Our focus is incorporated businesses, but we handle self-employed T1s and advise on whether incorporating makes sense yet.

How do I switch accountants?

You tell them, we request the files, and we handle the CRA authorizations. It takes one email from you.
